Checkout open source code of Lobby & Themax's tree planter tool on how this was done.
Get rid of making biomes using different ground types tile by tile by making it more easier using this tool. This tool was inspired and made using the in-game "Tree planter tool", and works the same as it is. Just config all ground types that you need and start painting your maps. This will only works on land mass to prevent unnecessary tiles from spawning on waters.
