A part of my region dissappeared when I logged in this morning...

Last night I left my phone to charge and stopped playing. In the morning I was astonished to learn that a part of my region is gone, the one with my city on it. Can anyone tell me what happened to the city I have been spending hours in? The region map has one of its four grid gone so its not square anymore.
