Can I run my cities transportation needs entirely with buses ?

I have noticed my Industrial and harbor sections seem to generate a lot of traffic , and that traffic seems to largely consist of HEAVY - Cargo - type - TRUCKS.

I know that buses can run on regular - type roads

I know that fire trucks and police cars can run on bus - only roads.

I'm not sure , however , that heavy trucks or taxis can run on bus - only roads ?

Would my taxi stands still function on bus - only roads ?

I just got military. Would military vehicles use bus - only roads like the police cars and fire trucks do ?

I'm not sure if I built bus - only roads that the game would run Industrial / Harbor cargo on buses , replacing the heavy cargo trucks with buses ?

Finally , I'm not sure WHERE these heavy cargo trucks are carrying their cargo TO.

Traffic got so congested in my downtown that I built some neighborhoods with bus - only roads. I built some commercial districts in those bus - only road neighborhoods. The burger joints and retail establishments on those bus - only roads don't seem to lack merchandise , or go out of business on account of lack of supply , or otherwise lack of access.

Ah , now that I think of it in a slightly different light , I suppose the question wasn't really about buses , but about bus - only roads versus conventional roads.

Back when I was suffering such acute traffic congestion in my downtown , I had only one to three bus lines , and they were tiny buses , barely larger than a car . And was just learning about organizing bus routes and placing bus stops.

Now I have maxed - out bus lines , dozens and dozens of stretch - buses , and had to build another bus depot out on the periphery of town to efficiently and rapidly service far - flung neighborhoods.

I suspect I could now replace many of those bus - only roads with conventional roads and traffic would not worsen . It might even improve.

I barely have enough room left on this map to build an airport that can accommodate Boeing 747's , a large Ferry ( If I can figure out how to build it. ) , a military base , a Wasserwirtschaft Polizei ( coast guard ) base , and a very few other things . So I'm about done with this town anyway.

I have only the rare and occasional traffic jam now , and under the circumstances I do not foresee any traffic congestion problems looming in the near or distant future.

Not critical. I don't have disasters enabled , and didn't plan on building the UFO - attracting structures anyway.

It's going to be a small military base , strictly for role -play / flavor purposes .

That is ( not that it is important ) the military base is supposed to represent the Wacht -Regiment Feliks Dzierzynski , a militarized - police formation primarily tasked with defending the ruling party / the capitol from any possible coup attempts by disloyal elements in its own army , and for serious heavy duty riot control.

I'm going to build my real army / air force base in another town , and my navy base in yet another town.
