Designing an Effective Transportation Network for Large Cities

#1

Post by skylord_xanmuslin »

I'm new to TheoTown and am diving into the complexities of designing a transportation network for large cities. I’ve been experimenting with various layouts and systems, but I’m struggling to find the most efficient and functional setup.

My Current Setup:geometry dash
  • City Size: Medium to large
  • Transportation Types Used: Bus routes, subway systems, and highways
  • Current Issues: Traffic congestion, slow public transport, and inefficiencies in moving citizens around the city
Goals:
  • Reduce Traffic Congestion: I want to alleviate bottlenecks in heavily trafficked areas.
  • Improve Public Transit Efficiency: Ensuring that subways and buses run smoothly and reach all major city zones.
  • Integrate Different Transportation Modes: Creating a seamless network that effectively combines buses, subways, and roadways.
What I’ve Tried:
  • Implemented a grid layout for streets, but it seems to create congestion points.
  • Tried connecting subway lines directly to major commercial and residential zones, but the coverage is uneven.
  • Adjusted bus routes to avoid main highways, but this led to longer travel times for some areas.
Questions:
  • Optimal Layouts: What are some effective city layouts that balance road traffic and public transport efficiency?
  • Transportation Integration: How can I better integrate different types of transportation to improve overall flow?
  • Advanced Techniques: Are there any advanced strategies or techniques that can help in managing large-scale city transportation?

There are a variety of factors other than your layout that affect the transportation effectiveness in your city. For instance, type of building. You may have noticed that commercial areas are typically more congested than the rest. This is because they spawn more vehicles which target different buildings throughout the city. Vehicles will always chose the closest route to them (not taking into account the traffic). So it would be in your best interests to spread them out evenly throughout your city so that no one area gets too crowded. Hope this helps :)
