You better ensure that this isn't set by default for you.

The setting means you get notified whenever there's a post afterward in the same topic. You may subscribe to topics manually.

For quotes: You can set that up in your settings
For your topics: Check the box I marked in my screenshot

In general, the board doesn't know when someone's post is a answer to yours (except if it quotes you), so you have to deal with that.

I just tried out the plugin and there's no option to disable it. So I don't think that it's suitable as you seem to be the only one who's concerned.
