Old Fashioned Buildings and Transport

Hi,
What about having old fashioned buildings and transport? For example, cottages with thatched roofs, steam trains, and traditional greengrocers rather than fast food take aways. Perhaps there could be an option to play the game starting from 1900 with buildings and transport from that period, which modernise through time as you grow your city into the 21st century. I think SimCity 3000 (and maybe other SimCity games) had this feature or similar, although I could be mistaken.
I understand that this may be something for when the game is in the latter stages of the beta version, or even after this, as I suppose the game would have to be 'complete' first, and obviously brand new building and vehicle designs will have to be planned and created. But even so I'd say that there's now enough substance to the game in order to start introducing period buildings and transportation.
Would this be possible in the future, and would people like to see this happen?
