For those of you who can't get used to the smileys that are used to indicate rating you might consider to use this plugin that switches back to the old, simple icon
This plugin doesn't need extra texture space. You can use it as template for your own rating indicator

Just provide multiple frames if to represent multiple rating ranges. E.g. if you provide 2 frames frame 1 will be used for ratings >=50%.
