This was inspired by an apartment building in Romania:

Maybe next time you can add more life (i.e. people) to the flats as they look a little dull

I'll see what works best, but I feel it portrays the bleakness of communist-era high-rise housing pretty well.

I wanted to add no shadows to the flats as I wanted them to feel like each building was separate, like how buildings in TheoTown don't take shadows in the form of whatever is at the left of them. I may consider adding them in soon though.

EDIT: Maybe I should actually add people to it.

These buildings are perfect for my recreation of the Romanian capital city ...I have been to Romania, but I think it should be slightly wider (as wide as a Theotown tile), the roof should look more like the real thing, and there should be trees.

What do you mean "real thing"? I've quite been trying to follow the roof on that picture but I couldn't really get it so I just decided to make it different.

I'll try to see what works best in making it wider; all I did was just guess the width of it so there is, of course, a large room for inaccuracy.

I think someone here was doing 9-storey Khrushchyovkas and other Soviet buildings, so I found there was no need to do what he was doing.
