Look at the game textures, and take some inspiration from there, thats all i know. I never really worked with stairs.

style=2 is (idk how to explain it)
style=3 is dark blue
style=4 is grey (in light mode) or offwhite (in dark mode)
style=5 is light grey

There's options to chsnge theme under Board Preferences in User Control Panel (UCP). That's what Mendel's talking about.
