Farms are best when getting your city started, especially when playing on hard mode.

I played on hard mode, placed farms in the smallest pox, and failed (with a debt of -$15000)

Meanwhile I got 150 habs without any facilities (except power and water stations)

You make the farms as big as possible. Using all available credits after having built all other starting zones and infrastructure.

XD I just did a 4x4 residential zone, no commercial zones, and somewhat a 5x5 to 6x6 farm zone
