Why are all cities look so great|?

I am new to building roads and understanding each one I found out one ways roads are great for traffic. My city has shops next to houses and around them. I have also tried building them near industry is this ok? Does industry need police and hospitals? I tried getting images from google for road placements and a city layout in grid form but I can't figure out how to do a city from scratch. I have seen other peoples cities and they all look nice but mine's nowhere close enough. I live in a small country town and other people must get their cities built so nice because they live there. Am I missing out on building a nice one because I do not live in a city?

Erm.... No.

Living in a city have absolutely nothing to do with building nice cities, maybe a tiiiny bit. But mostly come from imagination, trying different stuff, or just looking up Google.

I agree with what LeoLeo said.
I personally live in a small town and I have absolutely no ideas on how a big city looks alike or how I should place things like skyscrapers ( the biggest building on the Island I am from has 12 floors... ) or highways or whatever.

If I should recommand you something, jus let your imagination talk and, if you like what you did, then it does not matter what the other people say.
